NZIDT Social Responsibility
At NZIDT, we believe that it is our duty both to give back to the Muslim community and to support the development of the next generation of leaders who will pioneer New Zealand’s primary industries into the future.
Donations to Religious Organisations
Historically, NZIDT has made regular donations to charitable organisations as a way of giving back to the Muslim community.

Hafiza Iqra Zulfiqar
Food Scientist – January 2023
“I am in the last year of my Food Science and Technology doctorate at Massey University - Palmerston North.
Being in the applied sciences and playing with the applications of science greatly fascinate me. Food science is still a new field of study where researchers are performing a potential role in being the part of “Farm to Fork” chain. With this aim, I have chosen this field of study to get involved in the process of providing people with safe and nutritious food. Along with nutrition, I have a great passion for exploring the therapeutic aspects of food. I want to create awareness about the foods that are important for mental health and well-being. To achieve this objective, I am working on how New Zealand-grown cherries could be a potential source of providing melatonin and tryptophan and can be utilized to improve sleep quality and brain health
This scholarship by NZIDT will help me to continue my passion and accomplish those objectives and my doctorate. I thank you very much for this support.
Jazak Allah”
Taskeen Fatima
Bachelor of Food Science – January 2023
“Assalamu Alaikum.
I am an international student currently pursuing my 3rd year B.Sc. Food Science student at the University of Otago.
I understand that it is critical for us to work towards designing more Halal products and creating its awareness in society; so that the Muslim community of New Zealand and worldwide have higher accessibility to Halal foods.
I am inspired by the Quranic & Sunnah teachings of foods, diets and sustainability, as well as encouraged by my family back home and lecturers at the Dept. of Food Science, to develop food products that are not only healthy and novel, but also sustainable and beneficial to local communities, industries and economy.
I thank NZIDT for this scholarship and the opportunity to focus on my studies and work towards the betterment of our community, In sha’Allah.
Jazakallahu Khair.”
Abdullah Naeem
Masters in Electronics Engineering - April 2022
I am currently in the last year of my Masters at the University of Canterbury.
I am passionate about designing hardware and software to develop products that will sustainably enhance lives. Whether it's designing parts of a reusable space plane, working on a prosthetic hand or designing a sensor that will detect contaminants in food, I enjoy the creativity, team work and continuous improvement involved in this work.
I am very grateful to NZIDT for granting me this scholarship as it enables me to focus on my studies and give more time to things I enjoy!
JazakAllah Khair
Nour Abughazala
Masters of Dietetics – January 2023
“I am currently in the final stages of completing my Masters at the University of Auckland.
I am passionate about nutrition and discovering its therapeutic and curative properties.
Expanding my knowledge of New Zealand’s food systems, I’ve gained some clarity into ways we could adapt our Muslim food banks, improving our community’s health and nutrition.
With this scholarship, NZIDT has granted me the opportunity to continue with these passions and invest time in our growing kiwi ummah. May these roots respire in the near future as we grow our new generation of healthy Muslim-Kiwi kids, insha’Allah.
Jazakum-Allahu Khairan and BarakAllahu Feekum NZIDT.”
Rahma Iftikhar

“Kia Ora,
I am Rahma Iftikhar, a third-year Bachelor of Science student majoring in Biological Science and Computer Science at the University of Auckland.
I am currently working in Software Quality Assurance and am looking to expand my options in both fields. With an interest in volunteering and extra-curricular activities, I expand my skills and knowledge in various ways.
I am grateful for the help NZDIT has provided in helping me achieve my goals, and I thank them for their contribution towards my education.

Aniq Noah Khan
Bachelor of Technology (Science) – April 2022
Assalamualaikum, my name is Aniq. I am pursuing a three-year degree at Waikato Institute of Technology and am currently in my second year.
I have always been fascinated by how difficult it is to comprehend chemistry and the science behind the things we encounter every day, including food. I am currently working part-time at a meat processing company while studying. This gives me experience handling and processing meat firsthand, which is a bonus for the course I am doing.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to concentrate more on my studies while also giving me the opportunity to pursue a career in this field. I am extremely grateful to NZIDT for providing this scholarship.
Jazakumullah khair.
