Who we are

NZIDT was established to support the integrity of halal certification in New Zealand and to enable businesses to meet the requirements of both domestic and international halal markets.

Since 2013, NZIDT has worked with manufacturers, producers, exporters, and service providers across a range of industries to verify compliance with recognised halal standards. Our role is to provide structured, independent halal certification that aligns with Islamic dietary principles while meeting the expectations of overseas markets and regulatory stakeholders.

What we do

NZIDT operates as an Approved Halal Organisation (AHO) recognised by the Ministry for Primary Industries, providing independent halal certification services to businesses operating in domestic and international markets.

Our certification services include product and ingredient assessment, on-site audits, ongoing compliance monitoring, and export certification, including electronic certification where applicable. All certification activities are conducted in accordance with documented procedures and overseen by qualified technical and Sharia auditors.

As part of our export-focused role, NZIDT coordinates with overseas halal authorities and relevant stakeholders to support recognition of halal certification in international markets and facilitate market access for New Zealand businesses.

Meet our Team

Management Team

NZIDT’s management team is responsible for the strategic direction, operational oversight, and governance of halal certification activities. The team ensures that certification services are delivered in accordance with recognised halal standards, documented procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Working closely with technical and Sharia personnel, the management team oversees certification operations, compliance systems, and international engagement to support the integrity, consistency, and credibility of halal certification services.

  • Taoufik is the Chairman of NZIDT Limited with an extensive background in the regulatory sector and specialist expertise in Halal certification. He has previously held various senior management roles including Managing Director of Multi Foods International, and Chairman of Global Halal Trade Centre. As an entrepreneur with strong management and leadership skills, he launched New Zealand Islamic Development Trust in 2012, to meet the growing demand for Halal certification services in New Zealand. Taoufik is a Registered Assessor with NZQA and NZITO. He holds a Diploma of Meat Technology and a Master of Business Administration

Our Auditors

NZIDT’s certification activities are carried out by qualified technical and Sharia auditors with relevant expertise in halal requirements, production processes, and compliance assessment. Our auditors are responsible for conducting on-site audits, verifying operational practices, and assessing compliance with recognised halal standards.

Audits are performed in accordance with documented procedures to ensure consistency, transparency, and impartiality across all certification activities. Auditors operate independently within NZIDT’s certification framework and are subject to internal controls and oversight to maintain the integrity of certification decisions.

Through structured audit methodologies and ongoing competency requirements, NZIDT’s auditors support reliable halal certification outcomes for domestic and international markets.
